Azurite, like malachite, is a copper carbonate mineral which is commonly found in and near copper deposits.  Deposits of azurite oxidize and transform into malachite over time.  Azurite in crystal form is extremely rare as most azurite forms in masses.  A variation of azurite was found at the base of K2 (the second tallest mountain in the world) which forms with white granite and drops of malachite and azurite.
